2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Eternal classics of the sci-fi. It was the first time when I read this book in original, because before, when I was a teenager, I've read it in Russian translation. To my surprise, I realized that some parts of the book were not translated into Russian (at least, in the issue of 1991) and the story became much more clear, when I've read the original.
I was pleasantly surprised by the foreword to this book, explaining, how it was written as a part of working on Odyssey 2001 movie by Stanley Kubrick. I still believe that the book is better than the movie :).
Living in the era of AI rising, it was especially interesting to re-read the book. Though, it's written long time ago, the story doesn't seem to be "outdated", science facts are still relevant and it's still quite a contemporary read.
I have a full series of Space Odyssey in my stock (the last one I have never read), so I am eager to continue my journey with Clarke.
